"You Win Again" is a 1987 song written by Barry, Robin and Maurice Gibb and performed past the Bee Gees. Recording [edit]

Barry Gibb wrote the melody while brother Maurice conceived the drum sounds (in his garage[6]) that open the track. On "1000 Great britain #ane Hits" by Jon Kutner and Spencer Leigh, Robin Gibb said "Nosotros admittedly idea that 'Y'all Win Again' was going to be a big hitting. It took us a calendar month to cutting it and get the right mix."[2]

Maurice Gibb explained "Yous Win Again" in a May 2001 interview with Mojo:

"When we assemble and write, information technology'south not like three individuals ― it's like one person in the room. Usually, we have a book of titles and nosotros simply selection ane. I loved 'Yous Win Again' as a title, but we had no idea how it might plough out as a song. Information technology ended upwardly as a large demo in my garage, and I recorded stomps and things. There was but i pulsate on there. The rest was just sounds. Then, everybody tried to talk us out of the stomps at the kickoff. They didn't desire it. 'Take it off. Too loud! Can nosotros have them non on the intro, just when the music starts?' All this stuff, but every bit soon every bit you hear that 'jabba-doomba, jabba-doomba' on the radio, you know information technology's united states. Information technology'southward a signal. So, that'southward i little underground ― give people an automatic identification of who it is."[2]

Nautical chart performance [edit]

"You lot Win Again" was a number one unmarried in the U.k., Republic of ireland, Switzerland, Deutschland, Republic of austria, Denmark and Norway, and reached the top 10 in Italia, holland, Commonwealth of australia and Sweden. Information technology also topped the Eurochart for iv weeks.

"Y'all Win Again" entered the UK Singles Chart at No. 87 in the nautical chart calendar week dated nineteen September. It took only four weeks to reach number one, where information technology remained for four weeks, thus preventing George Michael's single "Faith" from reaching the top spot.[7] [8] When the single reached number one in the United kingdom in mid-October 1987, it marked the Bee Gees as the kickoff group to score a Uk number one hit in each of three decades: the 1960s, 1970s and 1980s.[ii] It ranked four in the UK'southward year-stop singles sales nautical chart.

However, the single was far less successful in the US, peaking at No. 75 on Billboard'due south Hot 100, maybe down to a lingering clan between the Bee Gees and the disco backlash that emerged in 1979, when the grouping (disco icons at the time) were at the height of their fame.[ citation needed ] Their next charting unmarried, the 1989 hit "1", did return them to the US meridian ten.[9]

"You Win Again" was released commercially on vinyl and cassette. The CD single was not common in the late 1980s, though a 1-track CD single was produced as a promotional-simply copy given to radio stations and reviewers in the U.s. and a 2-track mini CD single was commercially released in Japan. The song as well appeared as a bonus track on the American version of One, replacing the song "Fly and a Prayer".
